My mother and aunt decided that they were going to make 2 extra turkeys (with fixins) at Thanksgiving for someone in need. My mother asked who we were making this for, but my aunt said that God would tell us who they belonged to when we were finished. I remember it being a sacrifice, and that most of the good food didn't stay on our table, but even at my age then, it felt good to help someone.

When the cooking was done, my aunt opened the phone book, (this tells you how old I am-people still used phone books back then :) and said that she felt we should call this charity, and see if they needed anything. A woman answered the phone in tears. She said the donations that they normally received had fallen through. They had needy families coming tonight, and nothing but mashed potatoes to serve them. When we arrived to drop off the food, two amazing women came out to greet us. Tears swelled in everyone's eyes as we were thanked over and over again. They said that we were an answer to their prayers. It was a small sacrifice to us, but to them, and the families they served it meant everything. We asked how they would make it stretch, and even offered our own Thanksgiving turkey, but the ladies refused, saying we had done enough. She said if God had provided this much, he would find a way to make it last for everyone, like the loaves and the fishes.

It taught me a valuable lesson about the power of giving to others even when you are in need yourself. Charity fills your heart till it over flows.

Thank you for sharing your inspiring story, and may God bless you and your family.
