Special Needs Beds

There can be many deciding factors on the type of bed you want for your child with special needs child, so this is by no means a complete list of considerations. When considering a hospital style bed for Kayli, we wanted the following adaptions:

  • Electrically raised head (for reflux)
  • Electrically raised feet (optional)
  • Electrically elevated bed (a must, to accomodate caretakers of all heights)
  • Open view to see Kayli
  • Forgiving mattress for spine curvatures
  • Castors on legs for easy bed mobility
  • Twin size for room to grow
  • Humidification and feeding pump access while in bed
  • IV pole attached
  • Easily removable or swing away side rails
  • Easy to personalize, look/feel like a little girl's bed...not a hospital bed
  • Quality built to last
  • Dark in color (to match her bedroom decor)

For Kayli, we decided on the Beds by George, safety bed, Dream Series because it accomodates all Kayli's needs and all our caregiver needs/wants. We were able to pick out the wood quality, the color, electric abilities, accessories, side rails (we chose windows for each panel), and were even able to pick as many phrases as we wanted for an engraving to add a personalized touch! With the poles already attached, we plan on making hers a canopy bed, as a decoration, rather than the optional safety canopy available with the bed. The company will be putting access entries in the bed for Kayli's equipment needs, attaching an IV pole, and engraving the headboard to say "Jesus Loves Me".
